As one of the 12 founding members of the football league in 1888, Burnley Football Club has a history rivalled by very few. The club is one of only five to have won each of the top four professional divisions in English football. Burnley got their nickname ‘The Clarets’ as a result of the club’s claret and blue coloured home kit.
In recent years, Burnley have overshadowed local rivals Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End, boasting Premier League success and Europa League qualification. Since 1883, one year after their founding, Burnley have played their home games at Turf Moor, the longest running continuously used stadium in the top-flight of English football. On a similar note, Burnley’s manager Sean Dyche has one of the longest-running managerial tenures in Premier League history. Dyche has established himself as a familiar face in English football, known for his no-nonsense managerial style and his gravelly, deep voice. Burnley are notorious for being one of the toughest sides in the Premier League, with the ability to withstand immense pressure from some of the best teams in English football.
Attending a game at Turf Moor provides you with the magic of contemporary football surrounded by over a century of the loyalty, passion, and success that characterises Burnley’s history. Seeing The Clarets in person will cost around £67. This value may fluctuate depending on factors such as the importance of the game, where within Turf Moor the seat is located, and supply and demand. Burnley has been champions of England twice, in 1920–21 and 1959–60, has won the FA Cup once, in 1914.
