England have made it to the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. They did so in an emphatic fashion, by hammering minnows San Marino. They defeated the tiny nation by 10 goals to zero and in doing so, recorded their biggest competitive victory ever. Can they go all the way?

Harry Kane looked to have regained the form that has so badly abandoned him so far this year, while Gareth Southgate’s side now look ready to take on all that comes their way. Of course, such a victory could lead to fans and writers getting carried away.

But isn’t getting carried away part of the fun of sport? And they had to beat more than just the tiny nation of San Marino to get this far.

So, we say, ‘get on the bandwagon and enjoy it!’ ‘Football is coming home’ and all that… To help us get in the mood even more, here are a few amazing statistics that have got us hyped for the FIFA World Cup.

In the eight times that England have played San Marino, they have scored 52 goals and only conceded one.
Unbelievably, England have actually scored six goals in the first half of a game before. That occurred against the Netherlands, all the way back in the 40s.
You may not believe it, but this is only England’s joint fifth biggest victory ever. Granted, all of the other ones happened over 100 years’ ago. The only one in (some people’s) living memory will be the USA 10-0 drubbing in 1964. However, since they won the World Cup in 1966, there hasn’t been a victory on this level.
Harry Kane scored hat-tricks in back to back games (well, he actually got four against San Marino). HE is the first player to manage this feat since Tommy Taylor in 1957.
Speaking of Kane, he has now scored 16 goals this year. For England, that is the most of any player, in any year, ever. Outstanding.
Keeping it in North London, the last player to chip in with four was Ian Wright in 93.
Let’s not heap all the praise on Kane though. Harry Maguire ruffled a few feathers over the past couple of weeks, but he has managed to become England’s top scoring defender of all-time.
This is statistically England’s best ever year, winning 15 games and scoring 52 goals.
We really need to put some respect on Jordan Pickford. He has kept 14 clean sheets this year.
How about debutant, Emile Smith Rowe, who became the country’s 18^th goalscorer this year. Just for the record, that is also the most ever in a single calendar year.
