English Clubs Dominating UEFA European Finals
In a season without fans, three out of four teams in UEFA finals are from the English Premier League. In the UEFA Champions League, Manchester City will play against Chelsea in an all English clash in Istanbul Turkey whilst in the Europa League Final, Manchester United will play against Spanish La Liga team Villarreal in Poland.
The dominance of Premier League teams is no surprise considering they have fared well in the competitions over the past few seasons. With Manchester City beating PSG and Chelsea beating Real Madrid, this sets up an exciting game that football fans around the world will see.
Arch rivals of Manchester City is Manchester United who will play in the second competition of Europe in the UEFA Europa League.
Many media outlets are portraying the fact England has 3 out of 4 finalists is due to the increasing amount of money in the Premier League. Whilst this is a definitely a factor, the biggest teams in Europe consist of other non-English teams such as Bayern Munich, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG, all of whom have increasing resources and financial backing.
Chelsea are probably the surprise team in this having only recently sacked manager Frank Lampard. The new manager, Tuchel told French broadcaster RMC. “Here I have found such a strong club, a club totally focused on winning, with a very strong mentality, where I have had so much support since the first day, and the Premier League is extraordinary because you don’t get the chance to put your feet up.”
Travel Restrictions For Finals
Due to travel restrictions in place throughout Europe, both stadiums will not be at full capacity and fans from the home country are unlikely to be allowed to travel. Fans located in both Turkey and Poland will be in the stadium and will ensure the atmosphere is as good as it can be for the occasion.
In the Europa League, Manchester United beat AS Roma in the semi-final of the competition, whilst Villarreal, beat Arsenal in a close match up.
